Check a Romanian vignette
portal.etoll.ro · CNAIR
The check is free on portal.etoll.ro, CNAIR’s official site. Keep the registration certificate at hand: the form asks for the plate number, the VIN and the number of the registration certificate.
Open the official check on portal.etoll.ro ↗
Opens the official site in a new tab. You type the plate number and the VIN only on the official site; this page does not ask for them.
What to type in the form
- Plate number
- Written without spaces or hyphens.
- VIN (chassis number)
- 17 characters, from the registration certificate (field E) or the vehicle documents.
- Registration certificate
- The number of the document itself, not the vehicle’s. It is printed on the certificate.
- Security code
- The characters in the image; ask for another one if you cannot read it.
Steps
- Open the check page on portal.etoll.ro.
- Type the plate number, the VIN and the registration certificate number.
- Fill in the security code and press the check button.
- Read the result and the date until which the vignette is valid.
What the answer means
Valid vignette
Note the end date: drive on national roads only until then.
No valid vignette
Nothing active was found for these details. Check the spelling first; if you have paid, compare the details with your payment confirmation and contact the seller.
If something goes wrong
The official site does not load
Try again a few minutes later. A site that does not answer says nothing about your vignette.
The vehicle is not found
Compare the VIN character by character with the documents. A VIN has no letters I, O or Q: what looks like O is the digit 0, what looks like I is the digit 1.
Since 1 October 2026 vignettes are issued only through TollRo, CNAIR’s platform. Vignettes for cars, minibuses, coaches and vans up to 3.5 t bought before then were moved into the new system automatically and stay valid until the date written on them.
